He doesn’t fight crime
Or wear a cape
He doesn’t read minds
But every time my world needs saving
He’s my Superman
Some folks don’t believe in heroes
Cause they haven’t met my dad
Owl City-Not all heroes wear capes
Superheroes!! Our idea of them has been greatly influenced by Marvel Movies. The likes of Spiderman, Superman, Black Panther, Captain America and Bat Man have shaped our views on who superheroes are and what their roles are. Their greatest role however, is that of a protector from all villains.
Similar to the superheroes, our fathers remain to be the greatest superheroes. Their inherent role is that of a protector. A protector of the women and children alike. Sigmund Freud accurately defined the father’s protection as the greatest need in childhood. Fathers are called to be warriors. To their wives, they protect them from anything that may upset them while to the kids, they protect them so that they can later protect themselves and to the general family, shielding them from poverty
Besides protection, fathers have been called to do much more as they form the foundation of their children’s lives. The great book as well applauds fathers and calls them to fulfil their roles with passion and intentionality. Among the roles highlighted include; giving direction and discipline to their children, lead their household, be a first teacher to their children, exemplify a good life to their children, have quality time with their children and pray for their children.
Fatherhood is not the easiest task and for that we appreciate every effort you put into bringing up a healthy generation. As with every child born a mother is born so is a father and no manual attached to it. Regardless of the tons of books written to make the fatherhood journey easier, it is never the same since every experience is different. Do not beat yourself down in case you fail or if your experience is different from other fathers, you are doing a good job and keep on keeping on.
You are definitely our heroes in each and every way. For you to keep protecting us and to have the energy to keep up with other fatherhood roles, you ought to be well fed. Dear wives and children, this is a simple meal for you to prepare to the heroes in your lives as a way of saying thank you.
