A Love Story with No End; Mother’s Day
Mama, mama you know I love you,
Mama, mama you’re the queen of my heart,
Your love is like tears from the stars,
Mama, I just want you to know, loving you is like food to my soul.
-A song for mama by Boyz 2 Men-
Happy Mother’s Day! A song for mama creates the right ambiance for this celebration. A celebration of love that begun before we met and is the genesis of our love story. Possibly, you took the test and found out you were expectant and what followed thereafter was a rollercoaster of emotions. The thought of motherhood overtook all others.
You walked the journey with so much grace and the pregnancy glow a testament to that. You braved the pregnancy emotions, hormonal imbalance, and the ‘crazy’ food combo. This did not deter your excitement at the feeling of the kicks or the sight of the smudge on the ultrasound screen. Mother was a title bestowed upon you 9 months later.
Disruption from your usual routine, the sleepless nights, and for some postpartum depression did not take the title away from you. You have provided for us, cared for us and advised us. Prepared us the greatest meals that filled our tummies and for that and many more, we say thank you! Most importantly, you have made home a place we look forward to because you are the true definition of what home is; love, peace, acceptance and compassion.
The narrative may be different for others. The love, at first sight, is never experienced either because they had a miscarriage or they have reproductive issues. All is not lost because all women are mothers as they bring life into the world in some way. We celebrate you as well and pray that God heeds to your prayers and grants your heart’s desires. To those who have also taken up children that are not borne of them but have raised them as theirs, you are truly special.
Motherhood is a journey of pure joy and unconditional love. Despite the challenges experienced, we appreciate the fact that you never gave up on us and that you are always there for us regardless of our age. This being a different season where we have to stay home for our safety, Mother’s Day remains to be special and we have to celebrate our mothers in one way or the other. However, no celebration is ever complete without a cake.
