‘Winter’ Is Coming!

Wimbi-porridge-3

Apologies to our GOT (Game of Thrones) fans for having to use one of your tag lines from this side of the Sahara, it is that time of the year (July) when we get to experience our own form of winter.  Besides the cold weather, other parts of our beautiful country are snowy and some, the fog is just too unbearable that we have to create memes to just have fun while at it.

Having enjoyed the beaming rays of the sun which has been evident through our light dressing and the beach holidays we crave to expose our bikini bodies; we find the cold season a bit off as it forces us to change from our norm.  The lamentations that we get to make while at it are way too much, similar to those in the January heat and we are left to wonder what we humans really want?

Most of us wish this month would be fast-moving however, as cold as it is, we have something to help you persevere.  Be it to curb the joint pains that will not give our rheumatoid arthritis clients some peace or the several asthma attacks spurred by the cold, as Winnie’s Pure Health, we have something for all seasons.

We are so used to the phrase ‘joto ni tumbo’ that besides how warmly dressed we are, we have got to keep eating to be warm.  Well, in the same spirit, the perfect way to get through this season is by having a warm cup of our stone-ground finger millet uji.  Besides enjoying the warmth that comes with it, you will also get to enjoy the various health benefits that come with this wonder cereal especially in matters bone health such as improving bone strength and preventing osteoporosis.

The best thing about it is that it is a family porridge, something that can be enjoyed by all without making anyone feel left out.  What better way to share love and even create a safe space for one to open up than through a meal.  Well, as usual, we have you covered.

Here goes the recipe to a drink you can enjoy while snuggled all up with your favourite blanket:

Ingredients

  • 3 Tbsp Winnie’s Pure Health Wimbi flour
  • 3 Tbsp Winnie’s Pure Health Pure Honey
  • 11/2 cup of cold water
  • Squeezed lemon juice/ground lemon rind for the sour taste

Method

  1. Add the flour into a bowl and add some cold water to make a paste
  2. Heat the water to boil and add the paste
  3. Let it cook for 10 minutes on a low heat while being continually stirred. The squeezed lemon juice or rind can be added for a desired sour taste.
  4. Add honey to taste while serving

From us here at Winnie’s Pure Health, we encourage you to eat well and keep warm.
